Pack Appropriately for International Travel
Paperwork for Travel
When you travel internationally, you will need a passport to prove your identity and your citizenship. Your passport does expire, so check regularly to see if it needs to be renewed. Some countries also require you to get permission to enter and will require that you have a Visa. You may also need additional documentation if you are traveling with pets or children and if there are vaccinations needed or health restrictions in the country you are visiting. You must obtain all of these documents in advance in order to travel internationally, so planning ahead is important.
Clothing for Travel
When you travel internationally, you will notice that other countries can have very different traditions when it comes to clothing. Try to dress like the locals do so you won’t stand out as a tourist and risk being the target of a crime. Dressing conservatively in long pants or a long skirt will show your respect for the country you are visiting and will not be offensive to the people living there. Avoid casual items like sneakers, shorts and open toes shoes, and keep valuables or expensive items out of sight.
Currency usage varies widely , so it is important to understand how money works where you are going long before you get there. Know whether your destination country uses paper bills, coins or both and how much each is worth compared to the others. Understand the conversion rate between your currency and theirs to determine which type you should bring with you. Some countries will allow you to use certain currency other than their own. Finally, call your credit card company to see if there are fees for using the card in a country where the currency is different.
